I want to remove them and i can't, i tried using prompt, powershell, VBS and resource explorer, the error is always 'mapped drive inexistent'. Problem is: now in my notebook, i see those drives from the older server like offline, but i can access their content entering those directory. WshNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive Drives.Item(i), true, true Set Drives = WshNetwork.EnumNetworkDrives Apologies if this is long winded or an obvious answer for those who know what they're doing.I'm trying to substitue a windows 2012 R2 fileserver with a 2016, on the clients i'm changing the network mapped drives through a VBS script, here's an example of how it removes the drives: Set WshNetwork = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Network") Hey presto - no annoying broken shortcut that actually works. It only worked though if you added an entry in these two blocks. then merged the new file back into the registry. So I exported once of the blocks where the share was working, opened the exported file in Notepad and swapped the drive letter in the file for the mapped drive letter that was not working.

Hope it helps Download PC Repair Tool to quickly find & fix Windows errors. These two blocks contain info about each of the working shares. Due to how permissions are assigned to mapped network drives. To clear the mapped network drive cache, right-click the drive under Network Locations heading and select Disconnect. There are two points in the Registry where network paths are listed. none of the above worked for me - though I guess all could have and seemed sensible. > There's nothing in the MountingPoints2 key in the Registry > You can't use the command prompt to force a new share on the same drive letter > It isn't available in the drive list if you want try to map another drive over the top of it

> mountvol M: /d - just says it doesn't exist Change the group policy to Update rather than Replace the drive mapping. > Right clicking and selecting "Disconnect" generated the error "This network connection does not exist."Īnnoyingly when it patently does exist and does get you to where you want it do - but just has a stupid red cross and the "Disconnected Network Drive" label - WTF !!! > But there's no path specified in the shortcut > Clicking on the link frustratingly takes you to the location on the network where it should be pointing > A mapped network drive that was reconnecting fine develops a red cross and is renamed "Disconnected Network Drive" The various answers suggest perhaps a lack ofĬlarity in the problem description - so her goes, restated. While I was reinstalling Windows 10 on my laptop yesterday I got the email from Google to migrate from the existing Backup and Sync to their new Google Drive for Desktop (GDFD).Currently, I have 80GB stored in D:GoogleDrive which was syncing to their cloud with Backup and Sync. So I have to start by saying I absolutely do not know what I'm doing - but I am persistent - and have found an answer to the specific problem that generated this thread - and others around the internet.
